Creating scary, Halloween effects on your windows can be as simple as hanging up new curtains or enhancing the ones you have. There are a couple of different items you can use to create these scary, Halloween effects, items that during any other time of the year would be destroyed and thrown away as garbage.
From torn cloths to spider webs, Halloween is the only time that it is perfectly acceptable to decorate with these things.
Mummy Cloth Effects
Mummy cloth is found in the Halloween section of the stores and is a grayish cloth that is both thin and torn. It has an overall dingy look to it. Mummy cloth is more torn around the edges as it is used frequently as part of costumes.
To display the mummy cloth, take down your regular curtains and hang the cloth as your replacement, Halloween curtains. If you have darker curtains, attaching the mummy cloth to the top of the curtains creates a fun Halloween effect, as well.
Black, Halloween Cloth Effects
Black cloth can also be found in the Halloween section of stores and is usually hanging right next to the mummy cloth. The black, Halloween cloth differs from the mummy cloth in that there are usually more holes in the black cloth than the mummy cloth. If you are not able to find the black, Halloween cloth in your stores, you can make your own by purchasing black fabric and creating holes in it and giving the edges a torn and tattered look.
Because the black, Halloween cloth has holes in it, it is better if you don’t use it as a curtain by itself, or you will have no privacy. You can attach it to lighter colored curtains or hang it directly in front of the window. Then you still get the spooky effect and without sacrificing your privacy.
Spider Web Effects
What Halloween is complete without spider webs? There are many different kinds of spider webs that you can buy in the stores, but we are working with the white, stretchy kind that you purchase in a bag for this effect.
With the spider webs, you can either attach them directly to your curtains (the darker the curtains, the better the webs stand out) or to the windows. If you choose to attach them to your windows, the nice thing about the spider webs is that you can attach them on the inside or outside to create that scary, Halloween effect on your windows.
