Spring is a great season for having your new windows installed. The “warm but not too warm” weather isn’t just for the sake of comfort or convenience, it also provides the right conditions that let you get the best installation results. Here’s why the spring season is favorable for window replacement projects.
It’s More Energy-Efficient
A typical window installation involves removing all windows before proceeding with the installation. Having this done when it’s either too cold or too hot can increase your indoor heating or cooling requirements. A day or two of exposing your home to outside conditions can cause a spike in your energy consumption, not to mention it could let dirt, debris and other things into your home. It could also increase your indoor humidity, which could later lead to condensation on the windows. A spring installation can mitigate these common problems.
Our window replacement process at Renewal by Andersen® is designed for minimal exposure, and is better than the typical installation process. A two-man team will simultaneously work on the inside and outside, only removing the windows that will be immediately replaced. Our team also seals off the room while working on it, so there’s minimal exposure to outside conditions. We’ve perfected the process that we can do it in the middle of winter without affecting your home. That being said, we agree that springtime is the best time to install new windows, for maximum convenience and energy efficiency.
Caulk and Insulation Cures Better
Every window has that gap between the frame and exterior wall that has to be filled with an insulating material before being sealed off with the trim. Caulk is also applied around these same areas. Both products require a certain minimum temperature to properly cure, so if the weather is too cold or too hot, it may slow down the installation. If you can spare only a few days for installation, schedule your window replacement in the spring or early fall.
It Prevents Movement of the Substrate
The term “movement of the substrate” refers to the expansion and contraction of frame materials during temperature extremes. This is especially prevalent in vinyl windows. Install them in hot weather and they could shrink when it gets colder, leaving gaps in the seal. Fortunately, our replacement window frames are made with our exclusive Fibrex® material, which resists expansion and contraction and can be installed any time of the year.
