Video Blog: What is Fibrex®?

Fibrex Windows

When choosing a replacement window for your home, it is important to consider its frame material. After all, a good window material can improve your home’s beauty, energy efficiency, and protection against the elements. A good example is Fibrex®.

Renewal by Andersen® of Westchester and Fairfield County, the expert in windows in Fairfield, CT, discusses the manufacturing process behind it in this video.

Fibrex

Each of our windows in Fairfield comes with this exclusive frame composite. It has the strength and beauty of wood, coupled with the low-maintenance features of vinyl. It is made of 40% reclaimed wood fibers from the Andersen® Corporation factories and 60% propriety polyvinyl chloride (PVC) polymer.

The Manufacturing Process

The manufacturing process of our Fairfield windows starts with using wood pieces that are too small for other parts of an Andersen window. Its 40% wood fiber by weight is reclaimed and combined with 60% propriety polymer, eliminating their negative traits.

These wood fibers are heated to extract moisture then are dried properly. The polymer, on the other hand, is heated to a specific temperature before being combined with the wood fibers. The merging of these two materials then forms a new compound. We then apply just the right pressure to the liquid polymer, encasing and filling every individual cell of the fiber without crushing them. Once encased, they align and bind to repel moisture, while developing the strength and stiffness of wood. The resulting compound then flows into an extruder, leading to the creation of any shape and color.

Benefits of Fibrex

Fibrex is two times stronger than vinyl and has the classic beauty of wood. It will not rot, flake, fade, blister, or peel, reducing the need for maintenance. Its manufacturing and durability also lessens the use of natural resources, making it an eco-friendly product. Its strength also allows for the creation of narrower frames, which assures you more outdoor viewing pleasure and sunlight. Lastly, it offers superior insulation to help keep your home cozy.
