While there isn’t a strict rule about which window style should go where, certain window styles just seem to work with certain rooms. Bedrooms, for instance, lend themselves to window styles that frame beautiful views, promote daylighting, or create an overall relaxing atmosphere.
Let Renewal by Andersen® of New Jersey and New York Metro share our recommended window replacement styles for bedrooms.
Picture Windows
Picture windows are large, fixed windows intended to frame views like pictures, hence the name. Additionally, picture windows are great for optimal daylighting, as it lets in the most amount of natural light in. Furthermore, picture windows – and fixed windows in general – are the most energy-efficient windows due to lack of moving parts and gaps that could potentially let indoor heat escape.
While it’s not the best choice for ventilation, you can combine it with a casement or a double hung window, or add transom windows above.
Bow and Bay Windows
To add more visual and physical space to a bedroom without taking up more floor space, you can’t go wrong with a good bow and bay window. This protruding window style creates a useable bay area that can be used as additional seating, storage, or shelving. The increased number of glass areas let more sunlight in. Plus, the side windows create an effective inlet-and-outlet passive ventilation when both are opened. Don’t worry about the sunlight adding unwanted heat to your bedroom or fading your fabrics; our High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass options have low-emissivity coatings that reflect solar heat and UV rays.
Double Hung Windows
For a traditional look, choose the ever-reliable double hung windows. The classic design features an energy-efficient seal that works better than most operable window designs. Some people are apprehensive about this type because traditional wooden ones are hard to clean, but our double hung windows can be tilted inwards for easy cleaning.
