Winter is over, and if you’re looking for the best time to declutter, spring is the perfect season to do the cleaning. Windows maintenance is a need for every home, and, in this post, we share with you some handy tips for cleaning your own windows during spring.
1. Schedule right. If you’re cleaning your windows, look for a time when there is no direct sun. It should be cloudy with average temperatures. Too much sun may cause the liquid on your windows to dry too quickly, leaving water spots.
2. Gather supplies. Before you start cleaning, prepare the basic supplies needed. These supplies can be found at most hardware stores. You may look for commercial cleaning products, soft-bristled brush, sponge, lint-free cloth, bucket and large towels.
3. Brush first. You need to brush your windows first before you wash them. Sweep away the dust and debris around your windows. Start brushing from the frame, hinges, sills and tracks.
4. Use the right tool. If you are cleaning a picture window, use squeegees. For multi-pane windows, use sponges or brushes.
5. Use a broom handle. If you’re having a hard time reaching the upper-level windows, use a broom handle. Attach your squeegee or brush to the broom as an option to the ladder.
6. Protect surfaces. For interior windows, place a bath towel on the sill and floor to catch any spills. This will help you clean floors easier once you’re done with the windows.
7. Prevent streaks. To prevent streaks on your windows, use an absorbent or lint-free cloth when wiping streaks. If materials are not available, use a clean paper towel or newspaper.
8. Wipe alternately. If you wipe your interior windows horizontally, then wipe the exterior vertically. This actually helps you spot window streaks.
8. Check what’s behind your window. Remove screens to clear the dust. Using a cloth, wipe down with warm water with a mixture of vinegar or soap. Let the screens dry before getting a replacement.
