Before You Call…

Before you call, however, make sure that you have a real Renewal by Andersen window. Renewal by Andersen is a subsidiary of Andersen Windows and we are only authorized to service Renewal by Andersen Windows. Renewal by Andersen® windows are priced, sold and installed as a package. All Renewal by Andersen® products have a Product Identification label that contains the manufacturing date and serial number of the product. It looks like this:

The location of the Product Identification Label varies depending on the window type. To locate the Product Identification Label on your window, identify your window type here.

Air Leakage

Every replacement windows we install comes factory sealed to protect you from air leaks that can suck conditioned air out of your home or allow indoor air to infiltrate your indoor spaces. Air leaks may develop due to damage caused by improperly installed shutters, security systems with window components or although rare, a factory defect that resulted in a sealant failure. If you feel or hear air coming through (or around) a window, contact the dealership immediately.

Condensation

Even high-quality, properly installed replacement windows may have some minor condensation build up during very hot or cold weather if your indoor humidity levels aren’t controlled. Excess moisture can damage your wood interiors and trim. Check out this article for tips to make sure the problem isn’t due to improper ventilation.

Glass Crack or Breakage

A broken window pane allows the insulating gas between the panes to escape – reducing its energy efficiency, and may cause air and moisture leaks. It is extremely unusual to have a “spontaneous” crack – one that develops from extreme temperatures or environmental stress. The 20/2/10 warranty covers homeowners against improper installation, so if you notice a crack or damage immediately after the installation, contact your replacement window consultant. If flying debris or other objects impact your window and damage the glass, you may be responsible for the cost of repairing the window, but it is important to correct the problem as quickly as possible.

Issue with the Appearance

Fibrex frames are guaranteed to never rot, fade, develop mold/mildew, flake, peel or otherwise lose their original color and surface texture with normal use unless exposed to harsh chemicals or you repaint them intentionally. Any changes made to your window unit may void part of your warranty. Changes in appearance should be reported. Did you know that using newspaper to clean your window glass could permanently discolor your frames? We recommend using only plain water, or a mild, non-toxic cleaning solution on all replacement window surfaces. And, never use a metal blade to scrape tough grime. Instead, use a plastic scraper if necessary to avoid scratching or etching your windows components.

Issues with an Accessory

Hardware, insect screens and removable grilles may begin to show age after 10 years, especially on windows that are used every day, and cleaned or removed frequently. Improper cleaning, using harsh chemicals and abuse can lead to damage that requires replacement.

Operating Problems

Every Renewal by Andersen replacement window is precision-built for performance. Sliding windows should effortlessly move along the tracks. Double-hung windows should never stick or hang. And, crank, or push-out, windows should open wide and close securely. If your windows aren’t easy to use, thoroughly inspect the window to see if dirt or debris is clogging up the works. Clean all surfaces and movable parts. Visit our homeowner resource page if you need tips on cleaning your fixtures. If you find damage or cannot find the root of the problem, give us a call.

Water Leakage

If you notice any water coming through or around a closed window during rainy weather, you may have an issue with the factory-applied sealants, a cracked glass, damaged weather-stripping or something preventing the window from securely closing. As with excessive condensation build up, water leaks should be addressed quickly to avoid further damage and prevent mold from growing that could spread to your walls and interior wood near your windows.
