Doors are wonderful things. They allow us to get in and out of our homes while still acting as a barrier against anything else from coming inside. Doors can also add to the elegance and look of our home with different designs and materials. Doors can even create a room where one wasn’t before.
Creating a New Room with a Door
Many homes that have an open flow to the main rooms of their home have areas where the walls come together to make hallways and doorways. It is at these doorways where you can add doors to fully separate a particular room from the rest of the open area.
For example, say you have an entertainment room downstairs in the basement that is accessed by walking down the stairs and straight into the room. If you have a doorway there (or a narrow hallway), you can add a regular door or a set of French doors to completely enclose that area. Then all of the sudden you have an additional bedroom, instead of an additional living area.
You wouldn’t be able to do this with a home that has an open floor plan though, as it would require walls to be created, in addition to the doors being installed.
A Door Creates Privacy
If you have a living room in your home where you have family or guests stay overnight, adding a door at the entrances of these rooms can give them the same privacy of having their own rooms. Giving them this privacy works out well for everyone in the home.
For one, your guests will feel more comfortable sleeping in an area that is closed off to the rest of the traffic in the house. Two, having a private area for your guests will give them a place to change their clothes, instead of having to take up time in the bathroom while the rest of the house is also trying to get ready in the morning.
Using a door as a Sound Barrier
For families that like to host parties and have separate dining rooms, putting in a door at the dining room doorway can help your children sleep better on nights you are hosting guests. Closing the new door in the dining room, as well as the child’s bedroom door will create a double barrier that will stop the sounds of your guest from waking up the children.
This allows the child to sleep undisturbed and allows the parents to still be able to enjoy time with their friends, all because of a door.
