The casement window is perhaps the oldest window style in history. Its design has allowed it to stand the test of time. It is the most preferred window style by most, if not all, fire egress codes in America. Beyond fixed windows, it’s the most energy-efficient option among operating units because it creates an airtight seal at closing.
While its longevity is impressive and unsurprising, there’s no denying its inherent weaknesses. We, at Renewal by Andersen® of New Jersey-New York Metro, understand its structural flaws, which is why we’ve made essential improvements to its old-fashioned design.
Here are the classic “casement” problems our casement windows don’t share:
Restricted Adjustability
Most homeowners find it hard to make casements stay open on their own. We solve this by adding a built-in crank to every unit, which has its own cubbyhole for a clean look. You can crank our casement windows open with little effort and adjust their position–and keep them there–as you please.
Insect Screen Incompatibility
Our casement design lends itself to insect screen installation. With the crank and lever lock installed on the frame, not the sash, the screen won’t interfere with the casement’s operation.
Hardware Failure
Traditional crank windows are infamous for not being the most secure. They usually develop mechanical issues as they age because their hinges–the hardware that supports their weight–rust over time.
We solve this by applying Estate™ hardware finishes. Available in different, stunning metallic options, our chrome, brass, and nickel finishes feature a special coating that makes the hardware immune to tarnish and corrosion. Furthermore, the non-glass portions of our windows, including the hinges, come with 10-year protection against defects in manufacturing, materials and workmanship.
Limited Size
Casement windows usually have size constraints since large ones are usually too heavy for the hardware to carry. Our products are usually larger than average because Estate hardware pieces are forged from solid brass, not stamped, to withstand the test of time.
We also offer a Casement Double Window–our closest interpretation of the classic French casement window–to cover large openings with two independent panels. You can also combine our casements with picture windows to capture large views and collect more sun, and still enjoy ventilation opportunities.
