Hanging Easter eggs in your windows is one of the simplest decorating ideas you can do that to show off your Easter spirit. However, it’s not like with Christmas where you can use whatever ornaments you can find to hang in the window, there are only certain Easter eggs that will work for this decorating idea.
Easter Eggs to Use
Because it is next to impossible to hang the cheap eggs that are used for Easter egg hunts, you will have to use eggs that were actually designed for decorating and not for hunting. The best eggs to use are the soft plastic ones that already have a ribbon tied to the top of the egg. This ribbon makes it easy to tie an additional ribbon or clear fishing line from it to the top of the window to allow the egg to hang in the window.
Using the ribbon from the top of the window to the egg gives the window a fun, delicate feel. The fishing line on the other hand makes the eggs look like they are floating in the window inside of hanging, when looked at certain ways.
Another type egg that you can use are the wood craft eggs. These eggs come as flat cutouts or as 3D eggs. Regardless of the one you choose, you will have to paint them yourself as they usually come unpainted. Being able to paint your own eggs though gives you the chance to make them uniquely yours as you can paint them any pastel or bright color you want, you can add sparkles, or can paint words on them.
Other Hanging Easter Eggs
Another type of Easter egg you can hang in your window is made with colored tissue paper squares and contact paper.
To make:
With their backing still on, place two sheet of contact paper on top of each other and cut out egg shapes. Having the two pieces of contact paper on top of each other will allow you to cut out 2 identical egg shapes to pair together later. Cut out as many pairs as you need.
Next, tear or cutout 1 in. x 1 in. squares of the tissue paper. Ideally, you should use multiple colors of tissue paper.
After you have the egg shapes and the squares ready to go, take the backing off one of the egg cutouts and press down the colored tissue paper squares on the sticky side. Once all the sticky side is covered, take the matching contact paper egg shape, peel of its backing and press the sticky side down on top of the tissue paper. To complete, poke a hole at the top of the egg and hang in the window.
Now you have a completed hanging Easter egg that looks like stained glass when the sun shines through it.
