At Renewal by Andersen®, we take pride in offering the best replacement windows and patio doors in the industry. One of our key window components is the frame. Instead of offering wood or vinyl, we chose to offer replacement window frames made with our own Fibrex® material. In today’s post, Renewal by Andersen® of New Jersey shares an overview of what makes Fibrex the ideal material.
Fibrex material is an exclusive type of composite developed by our parent company Andersen® Corporation. Research and development for the ideal frame material were already underway as early as 1958. The objective was to develop a material that has the strength, durability and aesthetics of wood, with the extrusion capabilities (which allows custom shapes and profiles) and the low-maintenance qualities of vinyl.
Ultimately, Fibrex—a composite made with wood fibers and polymer—was patented in 1991. It has since been in use as an important structural component in Andersen’s products, including custom windows and sliding patio doors.
Renewal by Andersen was founded as Andersen Corporation’s full-service window replacement department, with an important distinction: we offer replacement windows and sashes made entirely with Fibrex. We have since offered replacement windows that are fully customizable and can outperform industry standbys like wood and vinyl.
Fibrex offers several advantages over standard frame materials:
Strength — Fibrex contains wood fiber and polymer that’s bonded on a molecular level. It may sound like a cliche, but Fibrex really is more than the sum of its parts. Here is a material that is so strong that it lets us build slimmer frames that allow more glass. This means you can enjoy a better view and more natural light without sacrificing structural stability.
Energy Efficiency — Fibrex has inherent insulating capabilities that do not require a separate core. Combined with our High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass, it can help you save on your heating and cooling costs. All Renewal by Andersen replacement windows are certified by ENERGY STAR®.
Low-Maintenance — Fibrex material features factory-applied custom finishes that are on par with vinyl frames for their low-maintenance requirements, and are warranted not to flake, blister or peel.
Aesthetics — As an extruded composite, Fibrex can be made into virtually any shape and style that will preserve your home’s architectural beauty.
Responsibly Manufactured — Fibrex contains at least 40% wood fiber reclaimed from the wood trimmings at Andersen Corporation’s woodworking facilities. Its polymer content likewise contains recycled material.
