If you have a great view outside of your Indianapolis home, why let it go to waste? Those beautiful trees and your well-kept landscaping deserve to be enjoyed — and not only when you are outside. With the right windows- and the right room layout to complement those windows- you can enjoy the beautiful view when you’re inside, too. Whether you plan to replace your windows or work with the ones you have, here are some tips to help capitalize on your view.
1. Orient Furniture Towards the Window
Nobody will enjoy your great view if the furniture is all oriented away from it. You may need to rearrange your furniture or adjust your floor plan so that everyone can see the view out the window while seated. If it’s a dining room that you’re decorating, you may want to place the dining room table a foot or two from the window, and then arrange the chairs only on the opposite side and on both ends of the table. If you’re decorating a living room, consider arranging the sofa and chairs in an arc around the window with an area rug and end table placed just in front of the window.
2. Treat the Window View Like Part of Your Decor
When selecting decor for your Indianapolis home, remember to treat the window view as the focal point. Stay away from other large, attention-grabbing pieces of artwork that may steal the show. Keep everything else subdued, and choose colors that coordinate with the view out your window. This approach helps make the view look like a purposeful part of your decorating scheme.
3. Choose Simple Window Treatments
Big, cumbersome window treatments call a lot of attention to themselves, but they detract from the beauty of what lies outside of the window. Instead of choosing big, bulky curtains or large hanging blinds, opt for some sheer curtains in a pale, neutral color. Valences are also a good option. They add a pop of color above the window, but they don’t obstruct the view through the window.
4. Upgrade to a Picture Window or Bay Window
If you are upgrading your house windows, consider replacing your current window with a big picture window or a bay window. The window replacement team can usually expand a smaller window opening to accommodate these larger windows. Both are designed specifically to enhance the view. With a bay window, you can enjoy the view from multiple angles. However, a picture window is easier to install and does not change the look of your room so dramatically.
5. Choose Fibrex® Composite Frames and Sashes
If you do replace your windows, pay close attention to the frame and sash material you choose. Vinyl replacement windows are quite common, and while they have a low price tag, you get what you pay for. Vinyl tends to warp and crack as it ages, so the sashes have to be made quite thick. Fibrex house windows are much sturdier, so a thinner sash can be used, leaving more glass and therefore a better view.
