Sliding glass doors create a seamless transition between the outdoor views and your inner sanctuary. Its clarity provides your home with natural lighting, allowing you to save on illumination. For all its benefits, however, sliding glass doors sometimes get stuck. In this case you may need to adjust their operation.
Your local windows company, Renewal by Andersen® of Atlanta, shows you how.
The tracks enable the sliding motion of a sliding glass door and do so effortlessly. Dirt and grime, however, can build up on the tracks, making it harder to operate. To clean it, prepare a mild solution of detergent and water and use an old toothbrush to scrub it. For heavy stains and grime, use a cleaning mixture, such as mild soapy water, vinegar or a liquid window cleaner, and wipe the surface with a cloth in a circular motion. Clean the inside head stop and track of the sliding patio door.
Note that using lubricants on the track will cause the rollers to slide and not roll. Your windows contractor adds that abrasive solvents and cleaners are also two of the things you should never use for your doors.
The rollers allow the doors to slide through the track. To adjust faulty rollers, look for holes on the glass door that hide the adjusting screws. You can use a blunt knife or similar instrument to pry the cover open. Find a flat screwdriver and adjust the roller screws at a height that works best for your door.
That said, you may need to calibrate the latch receiver after doing this with the screws. Check for evenness afterward. When you’re satisfied, close the operating panel and gently turn the inside thumb latch to lock position. See if the latch engages with the receiver; when it does, pull the panel into the side jamb for a tight fit. Fine-tune this part using your flat screwdriver or a blade.
