The arrival of spring means only one thing to many homeowners – spring maintenance and general home improvement projects. House cleaning, roof inspection, and siding and gutter repairs are probably on the top of your springtime maintenance checklist but when was the last time you gave your patio doors some much-needed attention? In today’s post, Renewal by Andersen® of Atlanta shares three springtime maintenance tips to show love for your patio doors and keep them in great shape for the rest of the year.
1. Inspect the Tracks
If you have sliding patio doors and you notice that they aren’t gliding as easily as they should then be sure to check the tracks for any corrosion or debris. Give it a quick vacuum and scrub any corroded spots with a narrow wire brush and a good rust remover. After this is done, give it a good spray of WD-40 or use a silicone-based lubricant.
2. Check the Hardware and Locking Mechanism
Cold weather can cause the hardware on your doors and windows to jam. Patio doors should be easy to operate and lock. When the latch or locking mechanism isn’t working the way it is supposed to, then have it replaced immediately to avoid compromising your home’s safety and security.
3. Clean Both Sides of the Glass
Patio doors are great and can be the centerpiece of an entire room. But it’s hard for your patio doors to be the focal point of your space if they are covered in unsightly streaks and water spots. After winters, wipe down both sides of the glass with a mild cleaning solution to keep them sparkling all throughout the spring.
