The kitchen is the busiest part of any home, therefore it needs windows that can stand daily wear and tear, are easy to use, and can provide both natural lighting and ventilation. In today’s post, Renewal by Andersen® of Long Island shares the four window styles that are ideal for kitchens.
1. Casement Windows – Every kitchen needs ventilation for removing smoke, odors and excess humidity. Casement windows utilize the entire window area when opened, which allows maximum ventilation when you need it. The single-sash design can also give you a better view of the yard, which can be useful when you’re multitasking and keeping an eye on your kids in the yard.
2. Double-hung Windows – Most people consider double-hung windows as best for bedrooms, but they have certain features that make them a natural choice for kitchens. One is the familiar design – one doesn’t have to think about how to open and close them, making them perfect for when you have guests and need someone to open a window and allow air into the kitchen. In small kitchens, double-hung windows are even more ideal as one window can be opened in such a way that it has one opening that works as the exhaust vent and another that works as the intake vent.
3. Sliding Windows – If there’s limited space in the kitchen, or if the area outside the window is a path or a patio, you’ll want sliding windows – they don’t get in the way and help save space. The weight of the sashes rests on the bottom of the frames, which allows easy one-handed operation. If you’re serving guests in the backyard, a sliding window can double as a service window and save you some steps.
4. Bay and Bow Windows – A bay or bow window provides additional space that can be used as a display space, additional seating or even additional kitchen storage. Place a table in front of a bow window for a casual dining booth, which can help free up space from your work areas.
