Many people see their storm door as more of an impediment to their Christmas decorations than anything else. It gets in the way of being able to hang things on their door or even above the door because of the way the storm door swings out instead of in like the entry door.
But, with a little creativeness your storm door can be the perfect palate for your Christmas decorations.
Hanging Decorations on Storm Door
Hanging decorations on your storm door can seem like an almost impossible task. You can’t use nails in the glass and you can’t really use an over-the-door hook with a storm door without running the chance of damaging its weather stripping on top or scratching the paint. You need to instead turn to less conventional solutions to hang Christmas decorations from your storm door.
Take advantage of things like suction cup hooks that you can stick to the glass, or the hooks with the easy release back from 3M. These hooks will stick on your glass without damaging it or the paint on the frame and you will still be able to hang a decent Christmas decoration from it.
You can use a single hook to hang a wreath or you can use multiple hooks to hang evergreen garland around the edge of the glass. Basically anything you want to do with your entry door or around it for Christmas; you can do on your storm door with these hooks.
Snow on the Storm Door Glass
One thing that you can do with your storm door that you can’t with your entry door is use it as a paint canvas. Because you can easily clean off the glass after Christmas, you can use glass paint, glass markers, or even the spray snow to create a Christmas scene to welcome guests to your home.
There are even two sides to the storm door that you can use for your scene. You can create your scene on the inside, between the storm door and the entry door, to protect it from the elements or you can create it on the outside and give your scene the added element of texture.
If you want to add the illusion of depth, create part of the scene on the inside and part of it on the outside. For example, on the inside of the storm door you can create a snowman or a cabin on a snowy hill, then on the outside use the spray-on snow to give the snow texture and make it look closer.
