A window seat escape in your home will make you the envy of all your friends. The open feeling the windows provide, the comfortable cushions to relax on, and just how being there will enhance the look of a room; are all things they wish they had in their homes. You never know, though, once you put yours in; you may find ones appearing in their houses also.
If you already have a window seat in your home, increasing its appeal is the easy part. To start, purchase a bench cushion to put on the seat. The cushion will make sitting in the window seat more comfortable than not having one there. It also gives the seat additional character.
Make sure that the cushion is as close to an exact fit as possible, so that it doesn’t slide around when you go to sit on it. If your window seat is an odd shape or size, you can always have one custom made to fit perfectly.
Next, add pillows. Pillows give you something to relax against, adding an extra bit of comfort when you sit in your window seat. In fact, psychologically, just having the pillows in the window seat make it look more comfortable. This is because our brains automatically connect pillows with relaxation and sleeping.
If you don’t already have a window seat in your home, you can always have one built or create one yourself.
Alcove Window Seats
Alcove window seats can be built in spaces that extend outside from the normal flush of the interior wall and have a window. These are, by far, the most comfortable of all window seats because you have a wall on either side of the window that you can lean against when you are sitting in it.
To create a good, window seat, have a bench custom built in the alcove. Not only will this provide you with a window seat, but you can also have one built with cabinets or drawers in it for extra storage space.
Bay Window Seats
Bay window seats are created the same way alcove window seats are. The difference between the two types of window seats is that the bay window seat has more windows in it. With the bay window, there is the main window and then two windows on the side. This does allow for more light in the window seat, but you end up leaning against a window when you are using the seat.
Creating Window Seats Anywhere
While alcove window seats and bay window seats make the best looking window seats, you can actually create a window seat anywhere. By placing a bench or chest (with a bench cushion on it) under any large window, you instantly have a new window seat.
This window seat is not as user friendly as the other two types, but it will still increase the look of the room it is in.
