So you’ve signed the contract, made the down payment and now you’re counting the days until your new window installation. Congratulations, the hard part is over! But don’t break out the champagne just yet – every home improvement project has its share of potential hiccups. Holding a pre-installation meeting with our team leader can help prevent any unforeseen problems.
The following are some of the important details to discuss during your meeting:
Working days and hours – Window replacement takes about two days to complete in an average home. Work hours vary from one contractor to another, so make it a point to know the installation team’s expected arrival time. At Renewal by Andersen®, we make sure to arrive on time for installation day. It lets us make the most out of a day and lets you keep a tight schedule.
Access and security – If you can’t be present while your new windows are installed, you can entrust your home’s security to our team in the meantime. Our team leader is typically the one responsible for handling the spare key or security codes. Many alarm companies will allow you to set a temporary guest code that you can disable later once all the work is done.
Communication and contacts – Don’t forget to exchange phone numbers and email addresses with our team leader and make sure you can be reached in case of an emergency. While email communication may not be an absolute necessity, it can be helpful in exchanging photos, documents, or other files.
Site and landscape protection – Another reason a face-to-face meeting is important is that you will need to show our team leader the “safe areas” for them to work in. This includes parking access, appropriate places where they can temporarily store their equipment and bathroom locations. Our team will take special care to cover the work area and carefully move furniture and valuables out of the way.
Utility shutoffs – Make sure you inform our team leader about the water, gas and electrical panels. We bring our own power supply, so in most cases we won’t need access to a power outlet. Also, don’t forget to let our team leader know about appliances or utilities that should not be turned off, like the fridge, pool pump or the fish tank.
