Finding the right kind of window replacement for small rooms can be challenging. In addition to providing basic needs such as ventilation, natural lighting and energy efficiency, the window style should help make the room interior appear larger. Here are some of our window styles that achieve this effect:
1. Casement Windows – Ample amounts of natural light add visual volume to indoor spaces, and casement windows fit the bill for windows that need both. The single operable sash holds an uninterrupted glass panel that allows as much natural light as possible. Casement windows are the only operable window style that uses up 100% of the window area for ventilation, and they have the most energy-efficient window style next to fixed windows.
2. Bow and Bay Windows – The bow and bay window protrudes from the exterior wall, and is the only window style that adds a useable physical space in addition to ample visual volume. You can use the bay space as a recessed space for a desk, or perhaps as a window seat. The bottom area can be used as hidden storage or a display space. In any case, it helps free up some space in the room.
3. Window Wall – A window wall is basically several windows that occupy an entire wall, or at least a significant portion of it. If your remodeling project involves taking out a large wall section to make way for a window, then consider choosing a window wall. Similar to bay windows, a window wall can accommodate more than one window style. A popular configuration is mulling several picture windows together, with one or two operable windows for ventilation. Thanks to our High Performance™ Low-E4® glass, you don’t have to worry about the increased natural light heating up the room, or fading the fabrics and furniture.
4. Sliding Windows – A sliding window is another great window style for small rooms, thanks to its space-saving design. It’s also ideal for rooms that are adjacent to foot paths or other areas where an open out-swinging window might be an obstruction. Sliding windows are unique in that the tracks carry the weight of the sashes, which means you can choose much bigger sliding windows without worrying about the sashes getting stuck. And thanks to our Andersen®-designed track system and exclusive Fibrex® material frames, your Renewal by Andersen sliding windows will always feel like they’re gliding on air.
