Renewal by Andersen® of San Francisco products are available in dozens of color combinations, giving you plenty of latitude in enhancing the existing décor. In addition to offering a bevy of fade-resistant solid hues, we also have real wood interiors: pine, oak and maple. Conveniently stainable, this lets you add another dimension to the beauty of our products.
Below are some of the things you should remember when staining our replacement windows and doors.
Do: Have All the Supplies Ready
Start your project only when you have all of the materials you need on hand. Your supplies should include high-quality water- or oil-based wood stain, fine grit sanding block, a nylon brush, wood conditioner and painter’s tape. Our consultants can provide you a complete list during your appointment.
Don’t: Procrastinate the Project
Finish the wood veneer interiors of our products ASAP. Tackle the project 30 days after installation to prevent moisture, dust and sebum (skin’s natural oil) from contaminating the material.
Do: Practice on a Wood Veneer Sample
Avoid staining the replacement windows and doors right away. If you are doing this for the first time, test your skills on samples, which can be provided to you upon request.
Don’t: Finish Grilles While Attached to a Window
When finishing interior hardwood grilles, make sure to remove them first prior to staining to protect the glass.
Do: Clean the Surfaces First
Even if the replacement windows and doors were recently installed, wash them before starting the staining process. Proper surface preparation is key to the project’s success.
Don’t: Stain Our Fibrex® Material
Never stain window components made of our Fibrex® material. Any abrasive chemical may permanently damage it and essentially void its warranty. Stain wood veneer interiors and hardwood grilles only.
