Windows can last for decades. That’s why most people only have to go through a window replacement once or twice in a lifetime. But even if it’s your first time having your windows replaced, you probably already know that the process can be disruptive, especially if you are working from your home. So, do you need to leave your home during a window replacement? A local window installation company shares its two cents.
The quick answer to this question is no, you don’t have to leave your home during a window replacement. But, as mentioned above, the process is a loud one and can be quite distracting. The good news is that replacing windows does not take a lot of time – only about 30 to 45 minutes per window. So, even if it’s a whole-home window replacement project, you do not have to put up with the racket for long.
That being said, you may still want to be elsewhere while the window installers are doing their job. If that is the case, just be sure that you go through everything with your contractor before taking off. You may also want to prepare your home for the installation team to ensure that everything goes smoothly.
Deactivate any alarm systems that may connect to your current windows. You’ll also want to clear the work area of anything fragile or delicate and cover your furniture with sheets to protect them from dust. The same goes for your potted plants, shrubs and flower beds. If you choose to stay at home, keep pets and small children away from the work area for their safety.
